SUN SIGN "IN"-COMPATIBILITY By Ivana Run for dear life. You read that right. Run for dear life if you expected to read yet another article about the glorious compatibility of signs that share the same element. Seriously, how many times do we have to read about how “compatible” signs of the same element are before we get nauseous? I have been reading about this for as long as I have been doing astrology (13 years) and these days I refuse to read Sun sign compatibility nonsense unless I intend to get sick. Reason? First of all, you are not only your Sun sign; you are every sign of the zodiac. That’s right. Your natal chart consists of 12 signs, not 1 or 2 or 5. Even if you don’t have any planets in a particular sign, you still have that sign in your chart. Secondly, there are 8 important planets and 2 very important lights in your chart, which we will refer to as planets to simply the matter. Every single one of those planets is an important aspect of your personality and character and your Sun alone could not account for all of them in a million years. Thirdly, your birth chart consists of houses, which have cusps. A house cusp is an entrance of a house and its most sensitive point. Houses represent different spheres of life and cardinal house cusps (1st, 4th, 7th and 10th) are the most sensitive points of all. Cusps of the 1st and 7th house are called Ascendant and Descendant and they form your relationship axis. Cusps of the 4th and 10th house are called Immum Coeli, (aka IC) and the Midheaven, and they form your authority axis. If you really want to know if your partner and you are compatible you need to analyze the aspects that your planets and angles form to your partner’s planets and angles. Analysis of compatibility of partners is called synastry and since synastry is complex, it’s good to be aware of some ground rules. When analyzing any chart, it is recommended that you begin with the very backbone of the chart: the Sun, Moon and the Ascendant. Focus on the sign placements of all three in each individual chart and then the aspects they form between the two charts in question. Aspects to focus on are major (Ptolemaic) aspects: conjunction, sextile, square, trine and opposition. Even if you don’t get any further than analyzing Ascendant, Sun and Moon interaspects, and it is recommended that you do, know that just by focusing on these three factors alone you can uncover a lot about the relationship potential. All significant relationships feature heavy angle (Ascendant, Descendant, Midheaven, IC), Sun and Moon interaspects. A word or two about the nature of aspects: sextiles, trines and some conjunctions are considered flowing and squares and oppositions are considered hard. I cannot stress enough that the objective is NOT to have only smooth, flowing interaspects between you and your partner. Too much tension is not good, but neither is too little. It’s a healthy dosage of friction that keeps people together. If you finished analyzing Ascendant, Sun and Moon inter-aspects, and found that they do aspect each other heavily and that there is a healthy balance of flowing and hard aspects, it is safe to assume that your personality, character and emotional make-up are a match to your partner’s. Next thing to look at is sexual attraction. If you are already romantically involved, chances are that there are, indeed, strong romantic links between the two of you and the thing to find out is not whether they exist or not, but what they are. Mars and Venus are lords of sexual attraction, and most couples have Mars and Venus interaspects, but sexual attraction does not stop with them. The bottom line of sexual attraction is contact between the male and female principle ruled by the Sun and Moon. Pluto, being the modern ruler of Scorpio, the most sexual sign of all, rules sexual attraction as well. If ever you see a strange couple and wonder what they see in each other, chances are there are very strong Sun, Moon, Venus, Mars and Pluto interaspects. Links that will produce powerful sexual chemistry are Venus-Mars (sexy time), Venus-Pluto (very sexy time), Mars-Pluto (somebody call a doctor!), Sun-Mars (shall I rip your clothes of now or right now?), Moon-Mars (…I’m ripping them of right now!). You get the picture. One planet that does not rule sexual attraction, but is nice to have in a strictly healthy amount is Uranus, which adds spice and speeds things up. Uranus may not be the lord of sex, but it is the lord of kink. Above mentioned planets and aspects determine how much sexual attraction there is and how much sex you have. Uranus determines how fast you get sexually involved and how spicy your sex life can get once you do. When Uranus gets involved with Mars or Venus in synastry, things get interesting. Needless to say, your natal charts and synastry are only your relationship potential. Where you take your relationship is entirely up to you and your partner. |
